Medicine Grand Rounds - Our American Dilemma:  Placing an Equity Lens on the Struggle for Diversity and Inclusion

Dr. Ross addresses the pervasive and complex issue of inequity in health care delivery and health outcomes. He defines equity as achieving the goal of all people living up to their full health potential, and discusses the barriers to equity in underserved communities. He is discouraged by the increased stratification of communities despite the introduction of programs that seek to reduce socioeconomic disparities. He identifies increasing diversity and inclusion in health professions and in the culture of healthcare delivery as central to eliminating health inequities.

    About our presenter:
    Dr. Ross earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, an MD from the Washington University School of Medicine, and a Master’s degree in epidemiology from Saint Louis University. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt and a Renal Fellowship at Washington University. He is a recipient of the State of Missouri Martin Luther King Distinguished Service in Medicine Award, the Washington University Medical Center Alumni Faculty Achievement Award, the Health Literacy Media Trailblazer Award, and the Samuel Goldstein Leadership in Medical Education Award.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
