The 51st Meeting of the VT/NH Ethics Committee: Ethical Responses to Unsafe Patient Behaviors

In today’s health care environment, clinicians frequently care for patients who may exhibit unsafe behavior. When facing behavior from verbal threats to outright violence, clinicians should balance the duty to provide compassionate care with their responsibility to foster a safe workplace and keep effective personal and professional boundaries. Effective communication techniques can help as can attention to the provision of trauma-informed care. Join us as we delve into the ethical issues and communication skills that health care professionals face when caring for patients who exhibit unsafe behaviors.
