The Gift of Presence – An Experiential Approach to Skillful Communication for LPNs and RNs

As an LPN or RN, you are called upon to provide skilled and compassionate care. It is high-stakes, high-stress work with many challenges and rewards. In addition to the knowledge and clinical skills required, you must also be able to speak up and listen effectively, respectfully, and compassionately. Yet, skilled communication like this isn’t easy. Patients and families are anxious, doctors, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team are managing endless urgent tasks and exchanging volumes of information, and as human beings we are all different in how we send and receive information. Sometimes it might feel like the mind and body are racing through the day.

One way to help is to raise awareness about the moments between listening and speaking up. A space where we can access calm and be present for ourselves and others. From here, our communication will arise out of compassion and respect and naturally become more effective.

Join communication specialist, author, and certified applied improv practitioner Beth Boynton and certified mindfulness teacher, professor of communication, and theatre artist, Liz Korabek-Emerson for a dynamic interactive workshop. Our time together will include a brief PowerPoint presentation, experiential activities, facilitated group discussion, case scenarios, reflection questions, and an action plan and handout with resources to help you and your practice long after the workshop is over.

We strongly encourage the use of cameras unless your network does not support them.
